There’s something special about a mother-daughter trip! Whether it’s relaxing on a beach, sipping wine in Europe, or laughing way too hard while getting lost in a new city, that quality time is something to cherish. Taking a step away from your everyday life every once in a while is needed and who better to do it with that your mother or daughter. And the best part? There’s no one-size-fits all approach!
Over the years, my mom and I have traveled many places together! Our first mother-daughter trip was when she visited me while I was studying abroad in Florence, Italy in college. My mom was taking her first solo trip to fly 8 hours to spend a week with me. We explored Rome and Pompeii before heading back up to Florence where I would spend the rest of the week showing her my home for the semester! There are so many memories from this trip but one of the most special pieces is the fact that we got to be together, in the country our family is from, and the place my grandma had always dreamed of going but unfortunately never made it. We were on an adventure in a place where we could feel the presence of grandma and know she was so happy we were there together!

This summer, my mom and I are embarking on another adventure together! This time we are combining a whole bunch of different vibes. We are starting off with a cruise from Portugal, stopping in Spain, and ending in the United Kingdom. We are then jetting off to Wales followed by Ireland before making our way back home. This trip is something I am really looking forward to as mother- daughter trips are just special!
As a travel advisor, I know no two mother-daughter duos are the same! Some duos bond over spa days with matching robes, others thrive on adventures, wine, culture and experiences— and many fall somewhere in between. So I put together a list of trip ideas for every kind of duo, whether you’re planning your first adventure together or your fifteenth.
The Relaxing Duo- Mother-Daughter Trips Filled with Self-Care and Slow Mornings
If you and your mom are all about meaningful moments, wellness and simplicity, this one’s for you. Think slow mornings, spa afternoons, and bonding without a jam packed itinerary. These trips are filled with quality time, healthy movement and beautiful surroundings. Here are my top 3 recommendations for the ultimate relaxing mother-daughter trip.
Miraval Resorts ( Massachusetts, Arizona or Texas)
Picture this: no alarms. You wake up after the best sleep of your life, feeling refreshed and ready to soak in the day. You wander down for a slow breakfast—fruit, yogurt, eggs, coffee in hand. By noon, you’re heading to the spa for facials and massages while catching up on life. You have no set plans for the day just vibes. Maye some pickleball. Maybe a nap by the pool. Dinner is followed by s’mores and firepit chat about childhood memories. And then? You do it all again for the next three days. Bliss.
Napa or Sonoma California
Picture this: Vineyard views from your hotel room (Stanly Ranch Auberge is Chef’s kiss.) You start the day with breakfast, then get ready for an afternoon of wine tasting and vineyard tours. You learn a little, sip a lot and find your new favorite bottle of wine. maybe you bring a book. maybe you just sit on the lawn with your wine and talk about everything and nothing. The next few days are a mix of more wine, luxurious spa time and the kind of quality time that makes you wonder why you don’t do this more often!

The Cotswolds, England
Picture this: A quick train ride out of London and suddenly you’re in a storybook countryside. You check into Lucknam Park Hotel and let slow life take over. You might spend your days taking, visiting the spa or even riding horses. Maybe you sit in silence in the lawn, reading your own books, just happy to be in each other’s company. Evenings mean pub dinners in the prettiest villages you’ve ever seen and post-dinner walks through cobblestone streets. It’s giving “peaceful, perfect and very Pinterest-worthy.”
The Adventure Duo- Mother-Daughter Trips Filled with Bucket List Moments and Bold New Experiences
If you and your mom are all about chasing thrills, the great outdoors and being pushed outside your comfort zone, this one’s for you. Think hiking to waterfalls, trying wild new foods and saying “I can’t believe we just did that!” on repeat. These are the kinds of trips that leave you windblown and inspired. Here are my top 3 recommendations for the ultimate adventure-filled mother-daughter trip.
Costa Rica
Picture this: You kick off your trip at Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, soaking in natural hot springs with a volcano in the distance. During the day, you are hiking to waterfalls, ziplining through forests and scanning the trees for sloths. Then it’s off to Nayara Tented Camp, a luxury jungle retreat where your room has a private plunge pool and insane treetop views. You cross hanging bridges, maybe rappel down the side of Arenal’s waterfalls and laugh your way through every heart-pounding moment. By the end, you’ve built a highlight reel of memories— and probably have a new appreciation for cold showers and bug spray.
Iceland
Picture this: You rent a car, cue up the road trip playlist and exploring the south coast of Iceland. Your days are packed with so many waterfalls you lose count, snorkeling between tectonic plates, snowmobiling across glaciers and hiking to magical ice caves. You stay at hotels like Frost and Fire Boutique Hotel with geothermal hot tubs to relax in. At night, you bundle up and search the sky for the northern lights (and yes, the thrill of spotting them is unreal). You even try fermented shark— because why not? This is one of those trips that leaves you exhausted in the best way.

Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks
Picture this: You wake up with phenomenal views of the Tetons from the Four Seasons Jackson Hole or glamping vibes at Under Canvas. Your days are filled with hikes to turquoise lakes, waterfalls and geysers straight out of a painting. You spot bison, maybe even a bear, and take in the sheer size of these incredible parks. In the evenings, you wander through the western towns— maybe hit a rodeo, maybe sip whiskey at a cowboy bar. You’ll end each day with sore legs and full hearts, amazed at what your bodies and bond can do.
The Foodie Duo- Mother-Daughter Trips Filled with a Journey for Your Taste Buds
If you and your mom are all about trying new foods, savoring bold flavors and learning about different cultures through cuisine, this one’s for you! Think cooking classes where locals share their family recipes, visits to vibrant markets and food tours that let you taste everything! These are the kinds of trips that leave you with a deeper understanding of a place— and also a quite full stomach! Here are my top 3 recommendations for the ultimate foodie mother-daughter trip.
Tuscany, Italy
Picture this: You wake up each morning to the smell of fresh pastries and espresso drifting through the air. You stroll to the bar (that’s cafe, not a cocktail spot) where you order a cornetto (croissant) and a cappuccino. Maybe you chat with someone nearby or simply soak in the cozy Italian vibe. You spend the days exploring through food tours in Florence or Siena, tasting regional dishes, visiting wineries to learn how wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar are made, and taking hands-on cooking classes to master fresh pasta or classic tiramisu. Evenings are for slow dinners at family-owned trattorias and strolls through cobblestone streets, gelato in hand. By the end of the trip you are both fluent in the language of Italian cuisine— and probably a little too used to having wine with lunch!
Japan
Picture this: You arrive in Tokyo and your first stop? A sushi counter where the chef places each bite directly in front of you. You spend the next few days wandering the buzzing markets and discovering tiny, tucked-away eateries. Maybe you try out a ramen cooking class where you learn to knead the dough just right. You spend time in Osaka, Japan’s street food capital, where you snack your way through Dotonbori trying takoyaki, okonomiyaki and so much more. Between meals, you wander shrines, take photos in Kimonos and maybe even try some sake. Every bite excites you and you leave already craving more.

New Orleans, Louisiana
Picture this: You start the day in the French Quarter with beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe Du Monde- powdered sugar everywhere, but its all part of the fun! You wander the streets listening to live jazz and popping into bakeries and candy shops. Midday you take a food tour to sample the local classics. You join a cooking class to learn how to make jambalaya or shrimp and grits. In the evenings, you get dressed up and head to some iconic New Orleans restaurants where you eat until you are full. This trip is all about flavor and making memories that stick— just like the powdered sugar on your clothes!
Whether you’re all about slow mornings and spa days, checking off bucket list adventures or eating your way through a new country— there’s a mother- daughter trip out there for you. These getaways aren’t just vacations, they’re memory-makers and the kind of quality time you’ll both be talking about for years to come. No matter what kind of duo you and your mom are, I hope this inspires your next adventure together!

I love the idea of mother/daughter trips! Can’t say no to Tuscany, that’s for sure. Great ideas!
What a fantastic list! I wish my mum loved travelling as much as I do. BUT I WILL KEEP THESE TRIP IDEAS IN MIND.
mother/daughter trips are the absolute best! my daughter still has young children so we aren’t able to travel far. we typically do a spa day or wine tasting. i’m trying to talk her into coming on a cruise with me in november. a visit to the napa valley would also be right up our alley.
I think my mom and I would love iceland! We have traveled a lot together, and i totally agree that it’s something special. my favorite trip with her was to the pacific northwest.
I could definitely see mum and i in Tuscany or The Cotswolds – so fun
